Episode 5: Tomb Raider

Posted by abootgames on February 27, 2006

I do have to apologize, there is a small segment aboot 20 minutes in where the audio gets real scratchy. This only lasts aboot 4 minutes. I am not sure why but I will do my best to make sure it does not happen again.

Games we are playing:

Call of Duty: Big Red One – another in a great series, but still just more of the same. Decent FPS with a great story that just sucks you in. The online part was not as bad as I heard the 360 vesrion.

DOA4 – Not as good as expected. It feels unfinished. Although the visuals are stunning, particularily the backgrounds; the actual gameplay is rough. Colision detection is so bad that during moves legs often go through each other. Overall not a good reason to buy a 360. Also the game is kind of insulting because everything is based on sex, sort of like if they put enough sex into it it’ll be good. Shame on you Team Ninja.

Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade – a button masher action adventure. Not that great but entertaining enough. The sequel should be out soon and hopefully it will correect certain issues, like all the armour looking the same. Only 4 classes mostly the same.

NFS: Most Wanted – Pretty racing game, real time lighting is magnificent. Control is pretty good with the 360 controller. Good selection of cars. My only real complaint is that the acting goes a little too far beyond the expected overly dramatic.

PS3 to cost $900 putting the retail price tag around $699.

The Phantom gaming console has been placed on hold. Infinium opened it’s books to show a loss of 62.7 million dollars over ther past 3 years.

Call of Duty: The Big Red One ad are banned in the uk. Why because of the pre-rendered images giving an unreal impression of the game.

ABC ignores an expert to instill fear in parents over pictochat for the DS

WGN airs a special comparing video game player to crack addicts. And their brilliant solution is for parents to do some parenting and moderate their kids game playing. What a great idea.

Tomb Raider: The amazing series that will be forever scarred by the Angel of Darkness tragedy.

Burnout 3 takedown. Freakin amazin. Buy this game.

Star Wars Battle Front II – Pretty god controls, biggest problem is spotty online play. Get dropped to often, not really a problem with the game as much as the XBox Live system.

Drakkan: The Ancient’s Gate – Best PS2 game ever! Wicked story, great AI, Tonnes of jaw dropping moments.

Episode 3

Posted by abootgames on February 13, 2006

Direct DownloadThis episode gets us back into the swing of things with our RPG special.

Jade Empire for the xbox. Too much like KOTOR to really call a new game. Identical menu structure and mapping systems, the light versus dark is even here. Open Hand versus Closed Fist The martial arts RPG did give this game a new feel. This is a “talky” RPG, very heavy on the story with a decent amount of butt kicking.

Contra shattered soldier – Picked this back up after writing it off for it’s difficulty last year. It’s pretty much and updated version of an older SNES contra (I believe super Contra).  Good 2 player co-op fun with a crazy degree of difficulty.  It’s like playing a fast moving game of that card game memory.  Still it feels old school enough to get me into it.  The best thing about it is that the Konami code, although slightly modified to work on the PS2, still works!  Up,up, down, down, L1,R1,L2,R2,L3,R3.

Champions – Return to Arms – A hack and slash rpg – action adventure – I have played this game before ( Balder’s Gate- Dark Allience – Champion of Norrath – etc) – A good game but basically a button masher – a gorgeous and fun button masher

Lords of the Realm II – I was feeling nostalgic and putting off work while at my PC and decided to play this classic turn based RTS again.   This game was released in mid nineties (probably 96) and mixes turn based resource management with real time battles.  It’s great against the PC, but even better against a real person.  My only real complaint is the fact that even today playing a LAN game still chugs.
