The world cup coming this summer in Germany sparks far too many video games this week.

One Minute Reviews:

Lumines: Totally amazing puzle game. The game is deceptively simple, only 2 colours and using small squares to make larger squares. A line that moves from left to right clearing the completed squares. The line move to the beat of the music. Which is the best part of this game, the music sucks you right in. The visuals perfectly match the music to the colored blocks. I have missed my subway stop too many times because I completely zone out while playing this games. A definate buy for any PSP owner.

Disciples 2: Dark Prophecy

This is a good fantasy turn based strategy game and its developed by Canadian Strategy First. Pretty much you rule a town and that centralizes resource managment, character expandability, and a few other things. From your town you deploy parties of various make ups like warriors, archers, mages, etc… Each level differently and unlike other similar games there is a real reason to keep your characters alive as they're expensive and get much better with time. The actual fighting is tunr based sort although not menu driven like the FF series of games. Overall the graphics are ok, not great, sound is alright, and control is decent. What really makes this game shine is the story which draws you in if you let it. Biggest complaint on this one is the total lack of a tutrial that I could find. I ended up having to play the first mission a few times through to make sure that I played to my fullest advantage. The game is work, but those of us who like this genre and love an epic fantasy story this is definitly worth a look.

Manhunt – Rockstar pushed the enelope of violent games with this title. A stealth action game the focuses on executions of the enemies. This game is incredibly violent but you do get desensitised to it, after seeing the same gory kill for the 50th time it does get boring. The games stealth action does disappear just over half way through when the guns come in to play. This game is difficult to find today mainly because of the over the top violence.

One Minute Review:

Worms : Open Warfare – a good time killer, but only in small to medium doses. Everything that made worms great is here, the crazy weapons, the voices of the worms, the random land masses, gorgeous backgrounds, the turn based warfare. The game does lose some of it's appeal after 30 – 45 minutes about the time of one complete game. There are some funny A.I. moments, when there is 2 or more computer controlled teams they will take out the human played before even attacking each other. This caused a lot of loses. The only thing that might be called a single player game is a series of challenges where you take on other teams in increasing difficulty. This game is a buy for fans of the worms series which should be everyone.

City Life Demo – 30 minute demo – Sim city with more of a focus on the interaction between the classes

Mortal Kombat: Deception – The second in the "new age" mortal kombats. The real looking character models have been replaced with a more animated look. The long time favorites are here: Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Ermac, Kabal. Each fighter has 2 fighting styles and a weapon style. This makes for some cool combos. There is a single player adventure that will take you through learning each fighters moves, there is dozens of unlockables, a puzzle fighter game, chess combat and almost all can be played online. This game should be pretty easy to find in a bargin bin and is worth a look. This game is a buy for the price.

One Minute Reviews:

Far Cry Instincts Evolution – A great looking super coloful FPS that plays just like dozens of others. THe "evolved" attacks are a satisfing way to end an enemies

King of Fighters: Maximum Impact – Nice 3D version of the 2D games. Not as full featured as any of the other 3D titles out there, but a damn sight better than the #d versions of their 2D competitors, SFII. Plays like a 2D game with side steps. Action is faced pacede and you'll be able to use thae same characters you know and love without having to learn to many new moves.

Syphon Filter : Omega strain. This game is just like the PS1 offerings. If this game was launched a few years ago it would have been awsome but the years strippe the polish right off this one.
Dave Mirra's Pro BMX 2 – Not a bad sequel to the game that originally came out for the PS1 and Dreamcast. All the ususal modes make an appearance, think THPS3 with BMX bikes. Landing animations are cool. Only real big comment, the intro is gigantic and doesn't focus much on the actual riding???

One Minute Reviews:

Kingdom of Paradise– Sword fighting action RPG for the PSP. The battles do jus boil down to button mashing but it works for this game. The sword fight is done by collecting "moves" that you then use scrolls with combos on them in a fill in the blanks collection. It all works well in this game.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire -Good multiplayer game where players can play all three of the main characters. Presentation, gameplay, and control are similar to the LOTR:ROTK only more Harry Potter. The difficulty is a bit toned down for the kids but overall a very good game.

Eternal Champions : challenge from the darkside – sega cd title – fighting game- I pulled out a classic system. This game has Environment kills, insta kills, personal kills (fatalities), great characters (chicken, owl, monkey, snake, us senator, cave man). Released 1994 after the original

Kingdom Hearts II – Great game so far. Does a good job of incorporate the previous game. There are a bunch of flashback type scenes that refer to the previous 2 games (PS2 and GBA). The graphics are slightly improved, music is just as compelling. the story is ultimatly where it's at.

News:

It is over but it something gamers should look at. The Independat Game Festival. There is a lot of good games here. Winners are announced at the GDC ( Game Developers Conference). The top five ineach catagory are all good games that are worth a look.

Planetside free for a year, Shadowbane is now free as well. Sony and Ubi drop monthly fees for their MMO's.

Microsoft makes some good moves to grow online community. My xbox gets a make-over to include control of friends list, demo's of big games hit the live arcade on the free xbox live week end. That is a whole lot for sony to try and match.

Ubisoft buy the rights to Far Cry and it's engine. Huge week for mentioning Ubi.
