XNA Development tools – Beta currently available through msdn.com/xna

Taking video game development and putting it in the hands of the gamers. The tools are a great way to create your own games on the console directly. The current beta tools are for non-commercial games. A production company would be needed to push the game for purchase on XBLA.

Using direct connection of a windows PC to an Xbox 360 allows real time access to the code for incremental updates.

Torque Game development tools –

The goal is to build community interaction for distrobution and development of games and game idea’s. Using them to drive the content and not just accepting the content that is available.

Games Journalism Round Table – Tommy Talirico – Editor from Tips and tricks – old fart.
The problem they see with current state of game journaism is that very few “blog” reviewers have a true voice and simply slam everyone that comes across. There is no actual journalism.

All Games Radio Trivia – 3 contestants in a modified jeopardy game – not a brain strainer on any level.

Halo Tournament.

Urban Yeti – GBA

  • Bizarre game whose humour and zanny storyline make you almost want to keep playing.
  • Almost
  • It’s a top down, GTA1 or 2 style game where you, the Urbn Yeti, Perform tasks to get a female yeti, whose mating call you hear early in the game.

Rise of the Kasai – PS2 – Sequel to “Mark of Kri”

  • Action / Adventure game
  • Use right stick to mark enemies – then attack using the button mapped to them.
  • Lack of camera control is annoying but liveable
  • Graphic are bland – not the best of the genre
  • Easy to loose focus in a larger battle
  • No musical track / sound is also average
  • Well worth the $20 at Walmart

Reviews

Tiger Woods 2005 – DS –

  • Typical Tiger Woods
  • Build your character to be competitive
  • Very little choice at the start, course have to be unlocked
  • Good use of the Touch screen for the swing mechanics – rub the boost bar – drag down for back swing then up for swing
  • Real PGA courses and players.
  • Graphic are poor – very pixelated and grainy – not much variety in color mainly green and blue
  • sound is acceptable – background sound are a little to loud
  • This was 5 bucks well spent but I would pay much more

Lord of The Rings – Battl for Middle Earth II – XB360

  • An adaptation of a popular RTS.
  • Normally I’d tell you to stick a knife in a toaster before playing an RTS on a console.
  • There’s no mouse and stuff can happen really quickly in these games.
  • Well not so in this one. It’s actually pretty good.
  • By slowing down the game a bit
  • … and giving the player the ability to click on whole regiments instead of having to drag boxes around things there is a decent amount of control.
  • I wont lie I was wishing for a mouse a bit when it got hectic, but I wasn’t completly lost.
  • As far as the game goes on the whole…
  • Graphics are pretty when zoomed out.
  • The models get a bit blocky when you zoom in
  • Building ae nice
  • The sound is immersive as we grown to expect from EAs partnership with the LOTR franchise.
  • The gameplay is pretty much that of a resource building RTS.
  • You build bases, harvest resources, etc…
  • I have to say I did really like the selcetion process for all the extra abilities like building lvling your heroes and using their extra powers
  • very easy to use once you got the hang of it.
  • If you like RTSs but like me aren’t going to upgrade your PC for this generation of power hungry RTSs this is a good alternative.
  • Now when is Empire at war coming out for the 360????

Doom 3 – Xbox

  • The 3 great doomgame from Id software
  • Visually the best one yet
  • Multiplayer is non-exsistant since this game is pretty old
  • Amazing textures but they are hidden in the darkness
  • Not having flashlight and gun kinda sucks but adds to the over all feel
  • The sound on this game is very immersive – NPC’s have side conversations – ambient sounds are fitting
  • Did come in a collectors edition with the first 2 dooms included.
  • A great bargin bin game for FPS fans

Download of the Week

Retro Game of the Week

Mutant League Football – Sega Genesis – EA

  • A football game played with Ogre’s,skeletons and robots
  • A simplified game with very few play choices
  • The field usually had hazzards – mines, holes to no where
  • Team’s have special offensive and deffensive plays
  • Runblast – running play where the ball carrier trows dynamite at the defenders
  • Graphic are pretty much like evry other genesis game
  • Audio as pretty limited but fit this game very well – explosions had a very tinny sound
  • The time is right for a remake or re-think of this game
