Star Trek: Legacy – XB360

  • Another surprisingly good game… not great, but good.
  • In single player you play as one of 3 Star Trek Captians (Archer, Kirk, or Picard) and progress through

Arena Football – PS2

  • Mix of madden / blitz / Street
  • Different and infuriating rules
  • Limited plays
  • Incredible amount of unlockable teams
  • Fast paced
  • woth the $10 I paid.

Trauma Center: Second Opinion – Wii

Trauma Center: Under the Knife – DS

  • 2 surgery sims, that are more or less the same game… at least the first 5 missions or so.
  • This game intermixes short “story” scenes akin to dialogue in a cheesy Japanese RPG. In other words a mostly static image of a person comes up on screen and some dialogue is displayed below.
    • This was acceptable on the DS, it’s a cop out on the Wii.
  • “Story” aside this game is about the surgery and the surgery is good.
  • You use the touch screen in conjunction with the DS’s shoulder buttons or the Wiimote to perform a variety of surgery type tasks like suturing, using the scalpel, etc…
  • It isn’t overly gross or anything, but it does get right into the human body.
  • The sound is very limited, again this is fine on the DS, not fine on the Wii
  • The graphics are fine for the game. They’re kind of cartoony which makes the operations palatable. On the Wii the patients are 3D, which makes no difference as you end up operating on a static patient anyway.
  • Gameplay consists of performing operations in parts, each of which consisting of a nurse telling you what to do and you trying to carry it out.
  • If you’re sloppy or slow the patient loses health and eventually will die.
  • To avoid repetition the instructions become vaguer or farther apart and the time allotment gets smaller.
  • Overall it’s better on the DS, but it’s pretty cool on either system. Although it’s value is multiplied by the DS because you’ll tend to play in shorter sittings.
  • Gameplay will get a bit dry after a while so I suggest a rent.

Valkyrie Profile 2 – next week.

Reviews:

Castlevania – Symphony of the night – The classic PS1 title, coming soon to xbox live arcade. Awsome 2D action game. This is one of the BEST 2D platformers. I have had this game since it made greatest hits and have yet to complete fully. (100%). You will play through the castle twice in this game, once in a normal manner the second upside down. This should be huge on XLA.

Shining Force NEO – Decent RPG

Astonishia Story – Odd little RPG for the PSP. 2D cartoon look the reminds me of the SNES days. This has more colours then the Super Nintendo was capable of but no much better. There are some very odd little cut scenes revolving around piracy. Odd to say this but there are many better RPG’s for the PSP. The battle system is tacticle style.
FF I & II: Dawn of Souls – Pretty remake of the originals, nice portable game.
Releases:

DS –

Mario Hoops 3 on 3 – A Mario’d basket ball –

Cooking Mama – a cooking game for the DS – cool use of touch screen for slicing and other prep work.

Harvest Moon DS – It’s harvest moon but for the DS

LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy – Great looking game but who fired first?

MechAssault: Phantom War – not so great looking but hopefully it plays well.

Mega Man ZX – A “new” mega man series for the DS.

GBA –

Disney’s Little Einsteins – Based on Disney show – platformer aimed at kids.

LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy – Great looking game but who fired first?

My Little Pony: Crystal Princess Runaway Rainbow – Words cannot describe the feeling of a rainbow that has run away. But My Little Pony & Friends will try to understand, with the help of the Crystal Princess. – Riiiiiight!

The Cheetah Girls – another disney show turned video game

Game Cube –

LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy – Great looking game but who fired first?

PC –

LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy – Great looking game but who fired first?

NHL 07 – EA’S Annual Hockey Offering

We are taking a brief pause before episode 30. Due to a business trip we are unable to record this week, we will be back next week with a new episode. A video update should be coming later this week.

The Dork Army held their Halo 2 gaming league and Aboot Games was there. I hope to post a video update later this week.
